Go is no longer a space, but rather just a marker at one end of the board that the players start behind. So step one to fix Monopoly is to redesign the board. On a forty space board, 12 spaces do not allow for money to change hands among players. The two taxes essentially negate some of your money given for passing go, and there are six Chance/Community Chest spaces which I'll come back to. All four corners are safe (Jail is really only a penalty in the early game, where there are still chances to get properties, players can still collect money and build houses while in jail). This is part of what I see Monopoly's big problem. Rolling that advances you to the next unowned property until all properties are owned at which point you go to the next property that you yourself do not own, forcing you to pay out to another player. Literally all the fast play version does is add one more dice, with two blank sides (no action), the numbers 1, 2, & 3 (add that number to your roll), and the last side is the monopoly man. These problems are often exacerbated by players who refuse to trade (because the idea of an opponent getting a complete set is much worse than what they might give you for it), failure to send properties to auction for not understanding the rules, and giving free money on free parking.Ī lot of this is fixed in the "Fast Play" edition of the game. ![]() It takes forever to get a complete set, getting up the houses and hotels takes forever, and getting people out takes too long. r/tabletopgamedesign - Designer's subredditĪ lot of default Monopolies problems come down to its slowness.r/boardgameexchange - selling/buying/trading games.Game of the Week Calendar Related Sites & Subreddits The simplest use is to bold game names in your comment and add " /u/r2d8 getinfo" at the end of the post, but this post/sub has other features identified.
